Logitech nano receiver hack
Normally, wireless keyboards send encrypted signals, so hackers can't spoof them and take over your PC. But wireless mouse traffic isn't always encrypted, according to Chris Rouland, CTO and founder of Bastille, because peripheral manufacturers didn't think it was necessary. Many of the tiny USB dongles used to wirelessly connect mice and keyboards are always listening for a new mouse, and they'll transmit whatever Bastille's fake "mouse" tries to send.
According to Bastille, because so many of these dongles use the same wireless chip -- a Nordic Semiconductor part -- there could be millions upon millions of vulnerable devices out there. Here's a list of the affected devices that Bastille has found so far. Thankfully, the vulnerability doesn't affect Bluetooth devices, or USB wireless dongles that aren't actively in use.
Even if you've got one of these dongles sticking out the side of your laptop, Newlin's antenna and program can't find it unless it can latch onto the wireless signal from your mouse. Perhaps the worst part of the vulnerability is that many dongles can't be fixed.
While Logitech Unifying devices have dongles that can be upgraded -- and Logitech tells us its other Nano dongles aren't affected -- Bastille says that others may be permanently vulnerable. A Lenovo spokesperson told us it believes the issue is limited to its Lenovo wireless keyboards and mice, and while users can't update those themselves, Lenovo is ready to exchange them for ones with a newer, safer firmware version.
Dell tells us that owners of its KM and KM keyboard and mouse sets should call technical support, and that though its KM keyboard and mouse will soon be updatable with the same Logitech patch, other devices may need to be swapped out.
It's also checking to see if other devices that use the Nordic chip are affected. Microsoft tells us it will investigate the issue and "provide resolution as soon as possible.

Loading comments I need to repair it since I bought a new USB receiver because the original one broke. Before I was using this headset normally in Ubuntu With the new USB receiver, it's still recognized in Gnome, I can see it and select it in sound settings, etc.
However, I need to pair the new USB receiver with the headset. The H is Bluetooth, not Unifying. Yeah it's both Bluetooth and USB. My 1st attempt was to use this utility, but I tried it for both Windows and Mac and none of them worked. That's why I turned to Linux to see if there could be anything in the Linux world I could use to pair it.
The issue is even worst. I downloaded the utility for Windows 7 and ran it. It displays the headset but it never pairs to it. Does anyone here knows the difference from pairing this USB receiver with the headset to pairing a USB receiver with a mouse? I'd be willing to try to implement it and share back here. I have VX Nano very old and a unifying receiver. Can anyone confirm this configuration works?
I had a combo mouse and keyboard with m mouse and k keyboard. So I bought a new m mouse which apparently has not a unify dongle no unify sign on it with the device id of 0xc same as the id that cinchcircuits added in commit ac The new m cannot unify with old dongle and the old keyboard cannot be unify with the new non unify dongle. I'm in a bad situation as you see : I even tried windows setpoint tool but it gives me the error that it is not supported!
Please help me with this issue. However, the Logitech Connection Utility should work. Thank you for your quick response. The combo MK is unifying compatible with the unify sign on it. I tried Logitech connection utility as you told, but it doesn't work.
I used unify dongle and it says : "the device you are trying to pair is not unifying compatible" Is it even possible? Is there any hack to do this? Is it possible to change the single nano receiver working with a M mouse to work with a K keyboard that is not unifying? Hi I bought a logitech combo k keyboard and mouse K keyboard and m mouse. I have bought a replacement receiver with the same part number non-unifying nano receiver C-U I haven't yet managed to persuade the receiver to pair with the mouse or keyboard.
I have read online that these devices come pre-paired and that what I am trying to do is impossible. I run windows 10 at home and Windows 7 at work. Is there a way for me to pair these devices or have I wasted my money? It seems to me that if you guys can't help me, no-one can! I have a logitech M mouse without nano receiver.
Can unifying receiver paired with M? Will this work with the K keyboard and or m? Kind of a noob at this and want to reconnect everything in my set up except one device is unifying and the other is a newer nano.
